N.I.A. looking at new directions

By John Martinson
New Directions for Nevada Inventors?
Who Says so? The membership says so, that's who.

At the May 31 meeting, NIA members will spend the first hour deciding the Zwhat how and Whys of where the organization will go.

When you get into the meeting room you will be given a choice of working groups these four topics:
1. SpeciaJ projects (inventions or devices) N.l.A. could develop and market The funding or financing of any such projects must also be part of the discussion.
2. A Science museum for the Truckee Meadows.
3. Meeting programs and Speakers
4. Guidelines, strategies, and priorities (the big picture). What specific activities do we want N.l.A. to be engaged in and
how should we prioritize them?
Or bring your own topic

If none of these topics seems to focus on problems you are interested in, you're invited to start another working group. A convener/recorder for each group has been selected ahead of time to move the discussion along right from the get-go

After the first hour's small-group discussions and a short break, everyone will reassemble, and each group's recorder will report on that group's discussion. In a general discussion, members can then comment on the contributions of each group. (Notes on the discussion will be posted on NlA's website and included in a future newsletter.)

Inventor presentations

The meeting will conclude with three short presentations by individual members on their current work. All members are invited to comment, critique and otherwise offer suggestions on these presentations. This represents a tryout for this way of involving the overall membership in the work of particular individuals who would like this kind of feedback. If considered successful, we can consider using this technique at future meetings Under our confidentiality policy, this portion will likely require some limitation on participation by non-members
